In keeping with Steve's generous heart and happy personality, Ian and Steve's family asked for donations to made to Cedar Valley Pride in Steve's memory. Steve would have been thrilled with the turn out of support by nearly 100 supporters who helped raise funds for Cedar Valley Pride in 2018.
This year, we will pay special tribute to Steve and celebrate his life and the proud way he lived. But also, because of this generous showing of support, we're able to help carry on our mission of promoting equality, diversity and inclusion in the Cedar Valley and across NE Iowa — helping to keep it as welcoming and diverse as Steve would have wanted it. In 2019 and beyond, donations will help create a lasting legacy and sustaining support for CVP. We will help use the funds to create educational and inclusion opportunities for the Cedar Valley community in Steve's memory. Supporting elements may be special guests in Speaker's Alley, LGBTQ History Displays, scholarships and financial support of Cedar Valley Pridefest. |

About Steve.

Many remember Steve as a funny, gentle happy sort. Growing up in Cedar Falls ('93) and attending the University of Northern Iowa ('10), he was truly part of the fabric of our community, which was appropriate being that he studied textiles at UNI.
Steve left the Cedar Valley in 2010 and set his sails toward the Big Apple where he worked in operations and logistics at several fashion brands. He also met his future husband, Ian Siegel, in 2010. He and Ian lived in Glen Cove, NY with their French bulldog, Jean Luc, until his passing on December 19, 2017. He is survived by his husband, Ian Siegel-Slykhuis, of Glen Cove, New York; his brother, Capt. Matt (Johnni) Slykhuis, of Iowa City, Iowa; four nieces and nephews, Joella, Asher, Aiken, and Jesse Slykhuis; many aunts, uncles and cousins, and his French Bulldog, Jean Luc.; and all of his loving friends that filled his heart with joy and love. Friends and family from the area have fond memories of their times with Steve in the Cedar Valley. Steve never lost his affection for this community, returning often to visit and celebrate life with friends near and far. This year, we will celebrate and remember Steve as one who lived life to the fullest, never afraid to march to his own drum. |

Cher Tribute.
On Saturday, August 25th, 2018 we'll have several tribute performances by Steven Andrade as Cher — we all know how much Steve loved Cher. We were able to track down the world famous Steven Andrade from Princeton, NJ (performing across the country and often in the Greater NYC area) who, maybe not coincidentally, Steve was a fan of as well. |
A few words for Steve.
Ian & Ruby James Knight On Stage Tribute 7:15 p.m. Please join us at the main stage for a short tribute from Ian, Steve's husband, and Ruby James Knight, emcee and friend of Steve's, will share a few words in Steve's memory. See the full schedule. Steven Andrade as Cher will perform a Cher Tribute medley in Steve's honor as part of the special tribute. See below. Join us for the weekend.
We hope you'll join us for the weekend to celebrate Pride in Steve's beloved Cedar Valley — Downtown Waterloo, to be exact. In fact, we'll be celebrating on the street in front of one of Steve's favorite watering holes in Iowa, Kings & Queens Club, where Steve and his friends shared many memories. |
