Hours: 12:00 - 6:00 PM 12:00 - 4:00 PM - CVP Art Exhibit Don’t miss the Cedar Valley Pridefest Art Exhibit held at the Hawkeye Community College Van G. Miller Adult Learning Center at 120 Jefferson Street in the Third Floor Art Gallery. Take a peak at the more than 30 entries submitted by local artists including three awards for excellence judged by a panel of professional artists and educators. Artworks range from mixed media, sculpture, fabric arts, digital arts, photography and traditional fine arts. Plus, there will be free cookies! 12:00 - 6:00 PM - Collaborative Watercolor Installation Friends of Cedar Valley Pride and The Ragged Edge Art Bar & Gallery created watercolor artwork during the Fabulous & Floral Event held during June of this year. We invite you to explore the artwork inside the Waterloo Convention Center on the Main Floor. 12:00 - 6:00 PM - Free Art Dispenser Get a free piece of art by local artists from the Free Art Dispenser outside of Pretty Good Co. at 310 West 4th Street. Local artists from the Cedar Valley and across the state collaborated to provide artwork that was Risograph printed by Pretty Good Co. 12:00 - 6:00 PM - Chalk the Walk Collaborate with us to create a huge, colorful display of Pride using chalk and your imagination. Sayings, rainbows, illustrations and more will help showcase the community’s Pride in the Experience Waterloo parking lot located at the corner of Jefferson Street and Park Avenue. 12:00 - 6:00 PM - “Gesundheit.” Outdoor Piano Art The Waterloo Center for the Arts is pleased to share “Gesundheit.”, a piano and work of art by local creative genius C. Allyn Slack. Slack reimagined, rebuilt, and recreated this lovely lady from an old King Company upright piano, painting her face (and other lady parts), modifying her sound and filling her with some unexpected surprises. Visitors are encouraged to look AND touch. Sit down and tickle her - she doesn’t bite. Or maybe she does… When Gesundheit isn’t making noise at Cedar Valley Pride, you can come and see her on display at the Waterloo Center for the Arts and Phelps Youth Pavilion, the place that she calls home. Hours: 12:00 - 6:00 PM 12:00 - 6:00 PM - Scavenger Hunt Find ten LGTBQ+ historical figures hidden around the festival grounds. Learn more about their accomplishments and historical significance. Get a sheet from the Waterloo Public Library table in the Experience Waterloo parking lot at the corner of Jefferson Street and Park Avenue and turn in your completed sheet to them for a prize! 12:00 - 6:00 PM - LGBTQ History Display In 2019, the US LGBTQ rights movement celebrated 50 years since the Stonewall Inn riots. Take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the history of this pivotal moment in LGBTQ rights and important events and figures since then. Learn more about Stonewall in the display and on our website. The panels will be displayed until dark in the Experience Waterloo parking lot at the corner of Jefferson Street and Park Avenue. 12:00 - 6:00 PM - Storywalk Walk along the windows in Experience Waterloo by the Education Zone to read “Lovely,” By Jess Hong. Jess Hong is an illustrator and author based in Oakland, CA. “Lovely” is her debut children's book that promotes diversity, inclusion, and the simple message that we are all lovely. She studied and received a BFA in illustration at the Academy of Art. She is fond of cats, noodles, and fine cheeses. Don't Miss Our Long-Running Educational Series "Speakers Alley"

12:30 PM - Storytime “The Hips on the Drag Queen Go Swish, Swish, Swish“ by Cedar Falls Public Library
A playful story about being who you are boldly and with Pride sung to the tune of The Wheel’s on the Bus. The Hips on the Drag Queen Go Swish, Swish, Swish encourages readers to boldly be exactly who they are. Written by a founding member of the nationally recognized Drag Queen Story Hour (DQSH), this playful picture book offers a quirky twist on a classic nursery rhyme by illustrating all of the ways to “work it”. The story plays off “The Wheels on the Bus” as it follows a drag queen who performs her routine in front of an awestruck audience. A fun frenzy of fierceness, this book will appeal to readers of all ages. 1:30 PM - The ABCs: The Anti Bullying Campaign. Bailey Hodson, Miss Iowa 2022 originally from Berwick, Iowa Bailey worked as a middle school literacy teacher in Kansas City, Missouri, as well as in Urbandale, Iowa, before winning the title of Miss Iowa 2022. Her career ambition is to become a behavioral interventionist. She has held leadership positions in schools and local events that focused on positive behavioral interventions and team building. As Miss Iowa, her Social Impact Initiative is The ABCs: The Anti-Bullying Campaign. Bailey has published two books focused on bullying prevention strategies that can be used in the classroom. Listen to her read her book “The Importance of Acceptable, Kindness, and Caring” and meet her afterwards! Books will also be available for purchase ($10) and to be autographed. 2:30 PM - Storytime: “Pride Puppy!” by Waterloo Public Library Learn what happens when a family enjoying a Pride celebration together does when they lose their puppy in a parade! A young child and their family are having a wonderful time together celebrating Pride Day—meeting up with Grandma, making new friends and eating ice cream. But then something terrible happens: their dog gets lost in the parade! Luckily, there are lots of people around to help reunite the pup with his family… An affirming and inclusive book that offers a joyful glimpse of a Pride parade and the vibrant community that celebrates this day each year. 3:30 PM - Kid’s Dance Clinic with Fusion Dance and Fitness Stop by in the afternoon for a kids’ dance clinic hosted by Fusion Dance and Fitness in Waterloo at the Kids’ Zone. Your little one will be taught a few simple dance moves and showcase their talents. Fusion Dance and Fitness in Waterloo is a premier dance and fitness studio offering classes to students of all levels from introductory to competitive dance. Vertical Divider

Art Projects
Our friends at the Waterloo Center for the Arts and the Hearst Center for the Arts in Cedar Falls will host art activities for kids. Activities will includ butterfly sculptures to paint, beaded bracelets and several other arts activities led by art center team members and volunteers. Facepainting by Becky Stop by and see Becky in the Kids’ Zone and get facepainting done for free for kids, up to 13 years of age. Becky will share her talents and paint a variety of rainbows, colorful designs and accents to showcase the Pride spirit of the weekend. Hoola Hooping by Breanna Throughout the day, our friend Breanna will be around the Kids’ Zone to add some whimsy and wow with hoola hoop dancing and entertainment. She’ll dance and dazzle kids with her display of athleticism, balance and grace. You won’t want to miss her! She will be in the area from 12:00 -12:30 PM, 1:30-2:00 PM, and 4:00-4:30 PM. “Touch-A-Truck” Firetruck Petting Join our friends from Waterloo Fire Department for a Fire Truck Photo Opp in the Kids’ Zone. Kids will enjoy seeing up close and personal this real life fire truck. Take photos, get up close next to the fire truck, meet real life firefighters. Home Depot Kid’s Workshop Join our friends at the Home Depot as they host a Kid’s Workshop in the Kids’ Zone. Home Depot will provide all of the necessary materials for kids to enjoy making something with their hands. Workshop kits will include a mix of small wooden projects that kids can assemble, paint and more. |
